REMOTE LEARNING - FRIDAY 22ND JANUARY
Good morning year 4, thank you for continuing to send us all your great work this week. Here are some of the super posters we received about fairness and justice. This morning, there is a collective worship at 9.00 am. Click on the link below and join everyone so that we can celebrate the Stars of the week together:
English
In English today, we are going to look at some more vocabulary specific to the topic of chocolate and other delicious foods. As with any explanation text, the vocabulary and language that you use in your writing is always associated with that particular topic. You will also look at word pairs and synonyms so that you have a wider range of vocabulary to choose from. Applying what you learn today is very important so please make sure that you follow the video very carefully and complete the tasks as you go:
Topic - Science
This week you began looking at what sound is and how it is made. In today's lesson you will find out how different sounds are produced and the factors that affect it. Musical instruments produce their sounds in different ways because they are played differently, plucking, strumming, tapping and banging. Watch this video all about sound and how it can be changed and then make your own musical instrument too. You can either follow the instructions you are given or if you are feeling really creative you can have a go at making up one of your own. Make sure you take a picture and email it to us or save it to your file when you are finished:

Good morning Year 4! There has been some incredible work this week and it has been great seeing all the different ways people have been presenting their learning. Remember if you are working on paper please take a photograph and you can email them to your teacher this is especially useful for anything you have been making and creating at home!
Please try and be on time for your meetings, if you arrive late then other children have to wait a long time and you can end up missing important information.

In English today, we will start looking at the chocolate making process so that we can prepare ourselves for writing an explanation text about it. Why are we writing about chocolate? Well, the content of the text is not so much what we are focusing on but more the features and skills that you need to be able to write an explanation text about any given topic. So, enjoy learning about chocolate but remember that it is the purpose, features and skills that are really important and need to be learnt. Watch this video and remember to stop and complete all the activities you are asked to do:
Phonics
If you usually do phonics with Miss Kaur, then you will need to complete your weekly phonics activities here. Mrs Kirby is recording phonics lessons for you to watch and also an activity for you to complete after each lesson. All you will need is a pencil and some paper. Each week, Mrs Kirby will add two phonics lessons with two activities to complete after. Today's sound is ow. Watch the video below first then complete the activity from the second video:

Fairness and Justice are our values this term, but what do those words actually mean? Today, we would like you to look up those words and think about how we can demonstrate those qualities as individuals. You and your family may give regularly to charities as a way of sharing your wealth and try to make things a bit fairer. You may also have stood up for a friend at school when you felt they were being treated unkindly by others or fought for justice for something you strongly believed in. Watch this video and have a think about its message, then create us a poster to show us what you have understood:

Please make sure you are in your PE kits and attend on time.
Maths
We are going to change plans slightly and revise our method of division by partitioning. This is such a useful and important method to learn as it will allow you to solve calculations quickly with accuracy. It is also a really good way of using known facts (your times tables!) which will allow you to solve problems mentally and using what you already know. When we partition to divide it means we might partition in different ways for different divisions. Below you will see two different ways I partitioned a number based on what I want to divide it by.
To divide 69 by 5 I would choose numbers I can easily divide by 5...
If I am dividing the same number (69) by 3 then I would choose different numbers...
Complete the table by opening the document below. You will need to decide how best to partition each number before calculating the answer.

English.
Imagine repeating the same nouns over and over again in your writing, well that is something many of us do without even realising how boring and repetitive it can make it sound. A simple and effective way of avoiding this is to use pronouns. Pronouns are words like he, she, they and it, to name a few, which can be used instead of the noun itself. Watch this video on pronouns and discover how and when to use them effectively. Remember to stop the video and complete the work when you are asked to:

Topic-Music
Yesterday, you went on a sound walk around your house and recorded all the sounds that you could hear. Today, you are going to look at items around your own homes and see how they can be used to create weird and wonderful sounds. Watch this video on home percussion and then have a go at making some of your own sounds. Remember to stop the video and complete the activities as you go:

A reminder for 4F that you have your Brass lesson with Mr Ali at 2.15pm today. Please make sure that you are in the meeting on time and have also completed the homework that he set for you last week. The body percussion example you did last week is in our files on the 4F Teams page if you need to remind yourself of what it was.
English
In English today, we are going to have a look at some more suffixes. We will be focusing on the group of letters '-al' which are added to the end of a root word and can change its meaning and even its word class. Watch the following video and see if you can identify the rules for root words that have the -'al' suffix added. Make sure you stop the video when you are asked to and take down any notes that will help you to remember the rules:

Topic - Science
For Science today, we would like you to watch these videos relating to sound and how it is created. Once you have watched them, we would like you to go on sound walk around your house and garden and record all of the different sounds that you hear onto the grid provided in your assignments page or in your book (see the table below). You will need to listen very carefully for some of the sounds as they are not always obvious until you really focus, like the ticking of a clock, the hum of a microwave or the chirping of the birds. Try and go to at least 4 different places and write down as many of the sounds that you hear as you can. You will need to do this so you can complete your work for tomorrow's English lesson:

Maths
Today we are going to continue our work on division. You are going to practise dividing pairs of number where sometimes there is a remainder and sometimes there is not. Have a think about ways which you could recognise quickly if a number is divisible. Fox example we know that 30 will divide by 10 because it has a 0 on the end and all 10 times tables end in 0.
Start by watching this video https://vimeo.com/497936690

Maths
Today we will be dividing with remainders. Remainders are the bits left over when a number doesn't divide neatly (it isn't in the times table). For example if I wanted to share my 9 sweets equally between 4 people, each person could have 2 sweets but there would be one left over. This is the remainder. so 9 divided by 4 = 2 r 1

English
Over the next few weeks, in English, we will be continuing our focus on non-fiction writing. However, this time we will be looking at explanatory texts. Similar to non-chronological reports, the purpose of an explanation text is to inform the reader; therefore, you will notice that many of the key features of these types of text will overlap. The explanation of a process or the answer to a question is usually the chosen approach with explanatory texts, but it still follows the structure and organisation of paragraphs that we saw previously in non-chronological reports. Watch this video and complete all the activities on paper or online when you are asked to by pausing the video:
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-identify-the-features-of-an-explanation-text-6cwk4d
Topic - Science
This week we begin our new topic - Super Sonologists. As sonologists, you will become experts in the study of sound - finding out exactly how sounds are made, how it travels and what affects it. We will be making links to Music by finding out how instruments in an orchestra work and why they produce their different sounds. Then, in Science we will discover how sound travels and also look at the factors that change what we hear. Watch this video to find out what sound actually is. Remember to complete the activities as you go:
