Remote Learning 5th - 7th January 2022

Year 5 Remote learning Jan 5th- 7th

Hi year 5,

Here is your remote learning for this week if you are isolating - remember, you don't have to complete any work at home if you feel poorly! Make sure your grown up let the school office know if you are isolating. Mrs Large will check in with them via e-mail over the next few days to check you are all ok.

English and Topic

In English you will be using all of the information you learned about plastic pollution and persuasive writing last year, and using it to write a persuasive, ‘anti plastic’ letter. The letter can be for an MP focussing on reducing plastic use nationally, or to Mrs Seymour focussing on reducing plastic use in school.

Below you will find a worksheet called ‘find the features’ to help remind you what needs to go in a persuasive letter. Choose if you want to do the 1 star, 2 star or 3 star (most challenging) task (stars are at the bottom of the pages). You will then use the colour code provided to identify the features in the letter. The answers are on the document so you can keep track of how you are doing. If you can’t print the document, just read through the letters and try to spot the features.

Then there is an example of persuasive letter for you to read -again, try and spot the persuasive features.

There is an activity called ‘Uplevel this’. Have a look at the example letter. Can you make it better using your facts and persuasive features?

There is a planning template for you to plan your own letter, to be used alongside the ‘success criteria and organisation hints’ document, and then you can go ahead and write the letter.

This is several days work so please don’t rush it or worry about it – just do what you can.

Maths

In maths you are looking at negative numbers. Please follow this link for a recap video and complete the activities: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/znwj6sg/articles/zxthnbk. Then practice counting forwards and backwards through zero using different multiples (for example, I start at 20 and count backwards in 5s, I would say 20,15,10,5,0,-5,-10,-15 etc – you can choose higher starting numbers, more difficult multiples etc for your own level of challenge)

Your class is mostly focussing on English and Topic this week. If you feel like doing more Maths, remember to go on TT Rockstars!

Reading

There is an attached comprehension about New Year celebrations for you to complete – use the stars at the bottom to choose the best level of challenge for you. Don’t forget to read at home for at least 20 minutes a day. If you don’t have books at home you can go on Reading Planet.

Finally, don’t forget the range of super online learning resources available on the school website here: https://www.st-johns-pri.bham.sch.uk/whole-school-online-resources/
