"Use your God-given gifts to serve others." 1 Peter 4: 10

Service

In Collective Worship we have been thinking about Service and how we can serve one another. We talked about how God has given us talents and we should use them to make the world a better place. The children shared their ideas about what they have to give others. We also thought about how we can serve at school. There are lots of roles coming up where children can take on responsibility and serve one another. It might be that your child's talent is sport or singing, or they might have a real interest in environmental issues. Maybe they are a good listener, or a great leader, an expert reader or a brilliant motivator; we want them to put these skills and talents to good use at St John's. Next week we are going to vote in our new School Council then the week after decide on our new House Captains. Look out for out sports council, eco council, singing leaders and values team in the near future.

"Use your God-given gifts to serve others" 1 Peter:10

Over the last few weeks we have been thinking of ways that we can serve others in our class, school, home and wider community. Our children have shown amazing service. This week, we have spotted:

  • Children in KS2 helping Reception at dinner time to collect their trays and choose their food.
  • Year 6 servers offering water to staff and pupils while they eat their dinner.
  • Children looking out for each other on the playground and asking them to play if they look lonely.
  • Pupils offering to translate for other children who are new to this country and finding it hard to communicate.
  • Song leaders singing to others at playtime and encouraging them to join in.

Our children have shared all their ideas for ways that we can serve each other. We are so proud of how the children of St John's live out the school values.

Matthew 5

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Acts 20:35

It is more blessed to give than to receive.

This week the children and staff have looked to see who is 'shining like a light' by serving others. They are using their skills, talents and time to help others without getting paid anything extra for doing it. The teachers have written the names of our Service Champions on a candle.
