Reception

Wednesday 9th October

Dear Parents,

I would like to introduce you to Seesaw!

As you are already aware, Nursery and Reception are now recording all of your child's learning on an app called Seesaw. This allows staff to take photos, videos and make notes to record your child's learning and development throughout the year. The really exciting part about this is that you will be able access this app at home and keep up to date with your child's learning through the Seesaw app!

To gain a greater understanding of how this will work and how to access the app, I would like to invite you to our parent workshops on Monday 21st October. There will be two time slots available: 11am and another one at 2:30pm. Please click on the link below or scan the QR code to select a time that best suits you.

I hope you all had a wonderful summer.

I firstly want to celebrate how well your children have settled into Reception already! Starting ‘big school’ can be a super daunting experience and yesterday they all did so well!!

Once your child is completely settled into their new classroom environment, they will be participating in the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA). This will be completed within the first 6 weeks of starting Reception. The purpose of the assessment is to provide the starting point for a progress measure that will help parents understand how well schools support their pupils to progress between Reception and Year 6.

The RBA is a short interactive and practical assessment of your child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills. The RBA is not about judging or labelling your child or putting them under any pressure at all, in fact, they usually just think it is a fun game they get to play with their teacher! Your child cannot ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ the assessment. It will provide their teachers with a helpful snapshot of where your child is when they start Reception, so they can be supported in the most appropriate way.

For more information about the Reception Baseline Assessment please find the attached leaflet or come and speak to us!
