The Greatest Showman
This is a 2017 American musical biographical drama film. A biography is when someone writes about someone else’s life. The film is inspired by the life of P. T. Barnum. He created Barnum's American Museum which was like a circus act of unusual and interesting people. They became the star attractions and people came from all over to watch them perform.
A musical is when some of the story is told through the characters singing. The music is not in the background like most films, it is part of the drama.
There are 9 original songs in the film. This means the songs have not been heard before, they were composed especially for the film. They were written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Some of the songs have become really well known. They were played on the radio and made it into the charts. ‘Pasek and Paul’ often compose music together. Their songs appear in other films too like ‘Get back up again’ from Trolls and ‘Speechless’ from Aladdin
