Week Beginning 14th March 2022

Year 1 Remote Learning week beginning 14th March 2022

Hi Year 1,

Here is your remote learning for this week if you are isolating - remember, you don't have to complete any work at home if you feel poorly! Make sure your grown ups let the school office know if you are isolating. Mrs Large will check in with them via e-mail as soon as possible to check you are all ok, and to help you with your remote learning if needs be.

This week is Science Week and the theme is 'Growth'. Check out this poster competition: https://www.britishscienceweek.org/plan-your-activities/poster-competition/

Here are some things for you to have a go at based around your class’ current learning:

Story:

Your class are reading The ‘Oi’ books.

Check out ‘Oi Frog! here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2da5yu6rpdg

Check out ‘Oi Dog’ here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WzCjWk2mRw

Check out ‘Oi Cat!’ here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7G2CNKhDbA

Topic

Your current topic is still Wild Safari!

Learn about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZa8qkdP86M&t=25s

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Xvi6ejc_9g

There is a quiz on this powerpoint (the first few pages are useful information, too) if you want to quiz yourself after your learning: https://primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com/hopton-primary-school/UploadedDocument/bac19d12e70643ec81a5ed3bf69b64ff/week-2-science-omni-carni-herbi-presentation.pdf

English

  1. Watch a Safari here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICc_Nt1zp9k

  1. Can you think of good words to describe the sounds these animals might make? E.g. “The hippo ‘chomps’, The lion ‘roars’

  1. Imagine you are one of the animals from the video (or any other animal of your choosing!)

Can you describe yourself using an ‘and sentence? Challenge: Can you use the suffixes ‘ed’ and ‘y’ (words that end in ‘ed’ and ‘y’)?

Here are some examples:

I have got a long, grey trunk and big ears.

My wings are pink and feathery.

My legs are thin and my feet are webbed.

My legs are short and my tail is long.

(You can always choose another animal if you have already done one)

Maths

In maths this week you are learning about mass and weight.

Lesson 6 – 10 here will help you to learn all about mass: https://classroom.thenational.academy/units/measures-1-length-and-mass-0f65              ****************************************************************************

If you would like some more general counting resources there are some here. You don’t have to do everything! There is a selection for you to choose the activities which suit you best:

Here are some lessons based on counting, and numbers to 50/20:

Have a go at some of the video lessons on this link (you definitely don’t need to do more than one a day): https://classroom.thenational.academy/units/numbers-to-50-fe7e

If that’s too tricky, try some of these lessons based on numbers 0-20 (you definitely don’t need to do more than one a day): https://classroom.thenational.academy/units/numbers-to-20-82de

Here is some more counting practice:

Counting in twos: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8sfr82/articles/zt3xwnb

Counting in fives: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8sfr82/articles/zdhdr2p

If you want a challenge, you could try counting back in 5s too: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zknsgk7/articles/zhfjqp3

Remember, there are lots more great remote learning resources on the school website here: https://www.st-johns-pri.bham.sch.uk/whole-school-online-resources/
