Yoko Kanno – born 1963 

 

Yoko Kanno is a Japanese composer and music producer. She is famous for composing film and video game soundtracks, classical music, electronic music and pop songs.  Jazz fans across the world praise her for her iconic score to the anime series Cowboy Bebop. In 2019 her classical suite 'Ray of Water' was written for the ascension of Emperor Naruhito of Japan. (The ascension of an Emperor is like the coronation of the King or Queen in this country) Kanno conducted the premiere at the ascension ceremony, with the Emperor and Empress in attendance.
