Daily Tasks/Key skills

Every day you must complete the following:

English

This week in English, we will be looking at poetry which focuses on rivers. Before you begin you need to familiarise yourself with the key features of rivers again. Take down some notes to remind yourself of the subject specific language that will be used when discussing rivers. Then, you will read through the two poems below and try to identify which features of the rivers the poets are referring to. Next. you will watch a video called 'A river journey', and see if you can come up with some suitable vocabulary to describe the different stages of the river, focusing particularly on the way it moves and the sounds that you can hear. Finally, you will try and write your own short poem about a rivers journey, using all that you have seen and learnt over the week.

Lesson 1: Familiarise yourself with the features of the river on this link:

Lesson 2 and 3: Read these poems and see if you can identify which features of the river the poets are referring to. Write out the poems and label them if you can.

                      Poem 1:                                                                       Poem 2:

Lesson 5: Using all of the information you have gathered over the week, see if you can write your own short poem about the journey of a river. Have a look at the ones from the beginning of the week for ideas and inspiration and come up with your own version. Send it in to us when you have finished.
