The Eurovision Song Contest
On Saturday 14th May it is the Eurovision Song Contest. This is an international songwriting contest where countries from Europe (and a few non-European countries like Australia!) compete to see who has the best song. If your country wins, it then hosts the competition the next year. This year it is being held in Turin in Italy.
There are 40 countries which compete. 'The Big Five' automatically qualify for the final (Germany, Spain, UK, Italy and France) but the remaining 35 have to enter the semi finals and only 20 of them will get through.
This year's entry has been written and is being performed by Sam Ryder. It is called 'Space Man'. Sam became famous on TikTok during the first lockdown by singing covers of songs. He got noticed by singers like Justin Bieber and soon became the most viewed UK artist with millions of followers.
