News updates and a new Commonwealth Games competition

Dear Parents/ Carers,

I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine this weekend. Here are a few dates for your diaries!

1. The Commonwealth Games Competition

As Birmingham is hosting this year's Commonwealth Games, we are launching a Commonwealth competition during tomorrow's collective worship. All entries must be received by next Monday- 28th March.

2. Perry the Bull is visiting St John's School!

The Commonwealth Games mascot- Perry the Bull- is coming to see us on Tuesday 29th March. We will be having a whole school collective worship so that all the children can meet him. Perry will help us to announce the winners of the Commonwealth competition. More information and colouring sheets can be found here: https://www.birmingham2022.com/mascot

3. Red Nose Day

Thank you for all your support on Friday. Through selling red noses and your donations in the morning, we managed to raise £823.82 for Comic Relief! The children (and adults) looked amazing.

4. Tomorrow is World Poetry Day!

We will be celebrating by sharing poems during collective worship and in our classrooms. Below is one of my favourite poems by Colin McNaughton:

"I don't want to go into school today; Mum,
I don't feel like school work today.
Oh, don't make me go to school today, Mum
Oh, please let me stay home and play.

But you must go to school, my cherub, my lamb,
If you don't it will be a disaster,
How would they manage without you, my sweet,
After all you are the headmaster!"

Details of the Commonwealth Competition will be coming out tomorrow... but if you're in Upper School- a love of maps will definitely help!!

Best wishes,

Mrs Seymou
