Clearing up confusion over schools re-opening

Dear Parents,

I know there is some confusion about when schools are opening more widely, especially as the media is reporting that the government is making a u-turn on expecting Primary pupils to be back in school before the Summer holiday.

Just to be completely clear:

  • We are opening to Year 6 next week (from 15th June) Teachers have been contacting all Y6 parents to find out if you would like a place. If you would rather your child stays at home, that is fine. There is no pressure to attend. Provision will be part time. If you elect to send your child, their teacher will be sending you a letter and video by Friday 12th June.

  • We will continue preparations to open for Year 1 pupils from 22nd June and I will update you on that next week. Again, provision will be part time, and if you choose to keep your child at home, there will be no penalty for doing so.

If your child is in a different year group we will not be opening to them in the next two weeks due to concerns around their safety and that of the staff. However, we will be updating our Risk Assessment weekly, and will open more widely as soon as we can.

As always, if you are a key worker and you are unable to keep your child at home safely, please contact school via 0121 675 1469 or enquiry@st-johns-pri.bham.sch.uk.

Best wishes,

Mrs Seymour
