"Use your God-given gifts to serve others." 1 Peter 4: 10
We have had another good week at St John's. If your children are anything like my own, when you pick them up from school and ask them what they have done all day they often say 'nothing', or just ask you for food! I am going to try and send you regular updates of things they have been getting up to so that you can ask them about it.
Our new challenge
We have been looking at ways that we can be the best version of ourselves. So far we have tried to make sure we have the right uniform and have worked on moving around school more respectfully by lining up sensibly and walking into school ready to learn. This week we have looked at using good manners. It doesn't cost anything to say please and thank you but it can really make a difference to someone else's day. We have been giving out golden stars to anyone who is being polite and respectful to others. Mrs O'Keefe has been in the hall at lunchtime listening out for children who say please and thank you to the kitchen staff and lunchtime supervisors. She has almost got through a whole roll of stars! Encourage your children to use good manners at home. Praise them when they show respect and tell them how proud you are of them.
Uniform
It has started to get really warm so if you have a summer uniform it is time to wear it! Here are a couple of reminders:
Reception trip to Hatton
Our reception classes had a lovely day out at Hatton. Here is what a couple of our children said about the day:
"It was really good. I got to feed the sheep and I enjoyed a ride on the tractor." Haider
"The farm had a goat and I stroked the guinea pigs. The fur was fluffy and soft." Hooriya
St John's boys' football team
We are so proud of the team as this week they won the Greet Mini League. In the league they had to play 10 games and only lost 1 which is an amazing achievement. Congratulations to all of the boys from year 6 and year 5 who took part. We are now looking for opportunities for a girls' football team to compete. Watch this space!
Music at St John's
Every week we listen to different music to expand our musical repertoire. All of our 'back catalogue' is available on the school website if you want to listen to any of it. This month, in honour of the Summer Solstice (the longest day) we are listening to music that has a Summer theme. Last week was selected songs by the Beatles, this week it will be The Kinks and next week we will look at versions of Gershwin's song 'Summertime'. Click on the link below and it will take you to our music page.
