    Music of the Kings and Queens

    "Song for Athene" (also known as "Alleluia. May Flights of Angels Sing Thee to Thy Rest") is a composition by the British composer John Taverner. The lyrics are written by an Orthodox nun, Mother Thekla. They are a combination words taken from an Orthodox funeral service and Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’.

    It is sung acapella (without instruments) and is for 4 parts. It is well known as it was the music which was chosen to be sing at the funeral of Princess Diana on September 6th 1997.
