Daniel Jay Gokey (born April 24, 1980) is an American singer and former church music director. He was a performer in American Idol. 

Gokey started singing with his family in church, but wanted to perform more mainstream music rather than just perform Christian and gospel music. He believes that music has the power of music to provide purpose and direction, especially in the most trying times.
