Week 1 1.9.25 - Nina Simone
Song: Feeing good – written for the musical ‘the roar of the greasepaint the smell of the crowd’, the song is about the character’s freedom/liberation.
Nina Simone, was an American singer, songwriter, musician, arranger, and civil rights activist. Her music spanned a broad range of musical styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel and pop.
Nina Simone wanted to be a concert pianist but when she auditioned for the Music school, she didn’t get a place. She attributed to racial discrimination. In 2003, just days before her death, the Institute awarded her an honorary degree.
