    Christ in the Manger

    Artist: Francis Musangogwantamu

Francis Musangogwantamu was born in 1931 in a small village near Kampala, Uganda. He was a devout Christian and his artwork often represents Christian icons. In this painting, he has painted all of the characters as African, reflecting his own heritage. The message he is spreading is if we are all made in God’s image, then Christian artwork should represent people from all different backgrounds.

Can you see the different patterned clothing the people are wearing?

They are wearing brightly patterned clothing and renditions of the Gomesi and Kanzu, traditional women’s and men’s clothing in Uganda.
