    Friday 5th March

    Happy Friday Year 5!

Remember there are no teams meetings today and your teacher will not be online. But you can still do the work here!

    TOPIC: Space craft!

To get yourself ready and excited for our space work next week, have a go at some of these activities.

    Space crafts

There are lots of great ideas on this website using things from around the house to investigate space.

If you scroll to the bottom, there’s also a game you can download and play.

    Topic

    Topic

Yesterday you learned about how far each planet is from the sun. Today your challenge is to make your own model of our solar system!

    You could:

-use fruit and take a picture of it, like in the video.

-make a model using cardboard, string and other materials from around the house.

-draw a picture of the solar system. You could draw around different size lids to show the size of the planets.

Make sure you think carefully about how big each planet is, and how far away it is from the sun.

Here is the video from yesterday if it helps you to watch it again.

    Fresh air and fitness challenge

Can you challenge yourself to improve your fitness and get some fresh air this week?

Every day get outside for fifteen minutes. You can walk, jog, bike scoot, skate, whatever you want!

Do you have a smart watch, a phone or a fitbit you can use? If so time how long it takes you to reach the end of your street, go round the block, make a lap of the park. Can you do it quicker tomorrow? Or see how far you can walk in fifteen minutes and challenge yourself to go further tomorrow.

Getting some exercise and fresh air is great to keep you mentally and physically strong. It will also help you to get ready for coming back to school next week. Ask an adult to join you, or maybe an older brother or sister.

If you find your can't get out, climb, the stairs, dance, jog on the spot every day for 15 minutes!

I'm going to ride my bike today for at least fifteen minutes.

    Computing

Watch this video to learn about how email works!

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zgqtn39

Today you are ging to practice sending an email  - it is a skill you will need more and more as you get older!

You will email your teacher, and you can choose what to write, but here are some ideas:

    1) What you have found most interesting in our topics so far (Islamic Golden Age, The Tudors, Space etc)

    2) How you feel about school getting back to normal on the 8th of March (positives and negatives welcome)

Here is what you need to do.

Log into BGfL and go to the square that says ‘mail’.

    Then click ‘new message’

Copy and paste your teachers email address (on Teams) into the address bar.

Add an appropriate ‘subject’ line (This should be quite short – like a title! ‘Things I have learned’ or ‘Coming back to school’)

Then you start your message. You may wish to start with ‘Dear Mrs Large/ Dear Miss King’, but it’s ok to start emails with slightly less formal greetings such as ‘Good Morning’.

People then often add in a friendly line saying something like ‘I hope you are well’

Then you write the main content of your message (proper grammar and punctuation please!)

Then you end with something like ‘Best wishes’ or ‘Kind regards’ (You can say ‘Yours Sincerely like a letter, but again, it’s usually ok to be a little bit less formal in an email),

    And finally, your name.

This blog has an example (although the content isn’t the same as what you will be writing): http://blog.kidsemail.org/2015/06/how-to-write-an-e-mail/
