St John's C of E Primary School

"Use your God-given gifts to serve others." 1 Peter 4: 10

Week beginning 16/11/20

Friday 20th November - remote learning

Maths:

In this lesson we will be looking at what happens if a number is multiplied by 1 or 0. When we multiply a number by another number, we call the answer the product. Although it seems pretty obvious, we sometimes forget that 0 has no value and therefore will always result in a product of 0 when multiplied with another number. What do you think happens then when we multiply by 1? The number remains the same as the number we are multiplying it by. Watch the video and complete the worksheet below: https://vimeo.com/475452114

Worksheet 5: https://resources.whiterosemaths.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Y4-Autumn-Block-4-WO5-Multiply-by-1-and-0-2019.pdf

This worksheet will appear in your assignments on your teams post too.

English:

Today we will be generating vocabulary to help us describe characters. You can carry on in your red book or complete today’s activity on J2E5. Make sure you hit save.

RE

In RE this term, we are going to look at sacred words. Many religions have holy books which are full of sacred texts and verses, and this week we are going to focus on the Sikh’s holy book – the Guru Granth Sahib. We  will discover how they treat their book with respect and look at some of the rituals involved. Watch these videos and learn all about them: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z9gkq6f and https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z29jxnb

After watching the videos and carrying out your own research, complete the activity in assignments about some of the items mentioned that are used by Sikhs to show respect for their holy book.

Daily tasks/key skills:

Reading Planet.

Some of you have still not logged onto Reading Planet despite being at home and having the time to. You must do this daily for at least 15-20 mins. If you are not sure how to complete the quizzes when you finish a book watch this helpful video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJb4VNAiZKg&list=PLbkK5BMcCobLOSyuOC5rnk3RsM6QXYwqS&index=15

The centre ID for Reading Planet is: 199591  and your 3-digit number from your school email.

  Thursday 19th November 2020 - remote learning

Maths

As you found out yesterday, any number divided by 10 gets ten times smaller, so a number divided by 100 is also going to get smaller. However, this time the number will be 100 times smaller. This means that all our digits move two places to the right on a place value grid. Remember what I said at the start of the week about the order of the digits not changing, only their values. Also, any numbers that are moved beyond the ones will not be recorded as we are only using multiples of 100 and the zeros will not be needed. Watch this video and try the worksheet that follows: https://vimeo.com/475385464

Worksheet 4: https://resources.whiterosemaths.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Y4-Autumn-Block-4-WO4-Divide-by-100-2019.pdf

The Math assignment will pop up on your Teams post as well so no excuses!

Today you will be looking at word class. This will help you with your work on The Borrowers which you started yesterday. Click the link above and watch the video, when you are asked to complete an activity you can type it into a page on J2E5 or into your red home learning book.

Spelling:

Last week we looked at the graphemes for the phoneme (sound) 'ey', 'eigh' and 'ay'. Today we would like you to write down as many words as you know with that sound in a table under its correct grapheme. Make sure it makes the right sound by saying the word out to yourself:

                              ey                                eigh                    ay

                             prey                            weigh                 stay

                             they                             sleigh                 spray

Wednesday 18th November- Remote Learning

Your registration is on Teams at 9 o'clock for 4A and half past 9 (9:30) for 4F. It is really important you try your best to log in to these so you can speak to your teacher and talk about your work for the day. You will also find out about any other meetings you are needed for that day.

Maths

Wednesday 18/11/20 – Divide by 10:

Dividing by 10 is the inverse of multiplying by 10, so this time our number gets ten times smaller. This means that on a place value grid our number now moves one column to the right. As a digit moves to the right its value gets smaller and smaller. We will only be focusing on whole numbers so the numbers we will be looking at will all be multiples of 10 or 100. Have a look at this video and then have a go at the worksheet: https://vimeo.com/475113712

Worksheet 3: https://resources.whiterosemaths.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Y4-Autumn-Block-4-WO3-Divide-by-10-2019.pdf

This assignment will appear on your teams post, just click on it to open and then edit and save it. If you can't do this then take a picture of your work from your homework book and and email it to us.

Key Skills

  • 15 minutes TT Rockstars or times table practise in your home learning book.
  • 15 minutes reading
  • 15 minutes spelling frame https://spellingframe.co.uk/- Choose year 3 and 4 words then rule one adding suffixes

Topic

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/are-all-teeth-the-same-68r62c

Click the link above. Complete the activities in your home learning book when asked to.

Once you have done this I would like you to make me a model of the teeth of a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore. You can be as creative as you like! It can be a model that you take a picture of, a picture in your book, you could even make them on the computer. Make sure I can tell what your animal is because I'll be getting ready to guess!

Maths

Monday 16/11/20 – Multiply by 10:

Today we will be learning how to multiply a whole number by 10. What happens when a number is multiplied by 10? It gets ten times bigger. You can see this by placing your number on a place value grid and moving all the digits one column to the left - this is what happens when you multiply by 10. It is important to remember that the order of those digits does not change when we do this, just their value. Watch this video and then complete the worksheet that is below: https://vimeo.com/474994166

Worksheet 1: https://resources.whiterosemaths.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Y4-Autumn-Block-4-WO1-Multiply-by-10-2019.pdf

Tuesday 17/11/20 – Multiply by 100:

We discovered yesterday that when you multiply a whole number by 10 it gets 10 times bigger. We can use this knowledge to multiply a number by 100. A number that is multiplied by 100 will become 100 times bigger, meaning the numbers all move two columns to the left on a place value grid. Watch the following video and then complete worksheet: https://vimeo.com/474994600

Spellings:

Make sure that your parents have tested you on last week’s spellings and then practice the spellings for this week. Remember to use the spelling strategies we have been practicing at school to help you remember them.

Calendar, complete, opposite, ordinary, position and possess

No Nonsense spellings:

This week we want you to go through all the previous weeks spellings and make a list of the ones that you made errors on.  This will become your personal spelling list and you must make sure that you practice these every week alongside your weekly spellings.
